1. What are Skinny Noodles/ Shirataki Noodles?

Skinny Noodles is a brand name for Shirataki, a noodle shaped Konnyaku product. Konnyaku (Amorphophaiius Konnyaku) is produced from tubers of the Konnyaku root, a potato family, and has been an important ingredient of Japanese cuisine for more than 1,200 years. Share

Recent science has unveiled the important value of dietary fiber and Konnyaku is very rich in soluble dietary fiber. Konnyaku is also recognized as nonfat, low in calories, very low in carbohydrates.


3. How can I use Skinny Noodles (Shirataki)?

Use as you would any noodles. Use as a substitute for pasta dishes with your favorite sauce, and in soups and salads.


4. What is the history of Konnyaku?

Konnyaku has a long history of safe dietary use in Japan. The first documented use of Konnyaku was in an ancient Japanese written work entitled ‘Man you-shu’ which was edited in the 8th century. Historically Konnyaku was used as a herbal ingredient for cleansing the digestive tract to eliminate irritating and harmful substances, and to keep the internal organs in good shape. In the 13th century, a Japanese doctor described the benefits of Konnyaku as an “ideal ingredients for diabetics and who has a tumor.”


5. What is ‘Glucomannan’ and is it safe to consume?

Glucomannan flour, or Konnyaky flour is approved by FDA as GRAS (Generally recognized as Safe) substance. It is listed in FCC (Food chemical Codex) at 4th edition in 1996 use as gelling agent, thickener, film former, emulsifier & stabilizer. Approved by the EU # L295127, E-425. Listed under E425, Annex V, food additives, 1998, EU.


6. Why is dietary fiber so important?

Dietary fiber activates intestinal functions and allows harmful and undesirable substances to leave the body quickly. As a result, plays a defensive role against certain diseases. In 1977, American Senate nourishment special committee published a report that states the shortage of fiber in eating habits is one of the reasons that adult diseases (obesity, constipation, heart sickness, diabetes, cancer, gallstones, hemorrhoids) are increasing.


7. Are Skinny Noodles (Shirataki) good for weight loss?

Konnyaku is one of the most effective foods for defending yourself from obesity. In order to lose weight, it is necessary to reduce the caloric intake. But if you eat Skinny Noodles (Shirataki) as part of your diet, you do not have to deprive yourself, as Konnyaku has no calories, has no fat and very low in carbohydrates. Glucomannan absorbs toxic substances produced during digestion and helps to eliminate them before they can be absorbed in the blood stream.


8. Are Skinny Noodles (Shirataki) good for Type 2 Diabetes?

Konnyaku is very low in carbohydrates and can be safely consumed by diabetics. In addition, when Konnyaku is digested it becomes gelatinous. It “coats” the carbohydrates in the digestive system, and helps to reduce the speed in which glucose enters the blood stream. This decreases blood sugar spikes, and allows for a gradual increase in glucose to relieve stress on the pancreas and to discourage blood sugar abnormalities.


9. Can Skinny Noodles (Shirataki) reduce cholesterol?

Bile acids are secreted from the gall bladder and contain cholesterol. Soluble fiber binds with the bile acids and helps eliminate cholesterol from the body. Konnyaku has 4 grams for soluble fiber per serving.


10. How long can I keep Skinny Noodles (Shirataki) after opening the package?

Refrigerate any unused portions promptly in an airtight container with the liquid solution from the original package. If the volume of solution is not enough to cover the portion of the remaining Skinny Noodles (Shirataki), please add some tap water accordingly. Please use within 3 days. We do not recommend eating leftover noodles after 3 days.
